Shillong: Meghalaya police conducted a successful operation in the East Jaintia Hills district, resulting in the seizure of 30,000 explosive detonators and the arrest of two individuals. The interception occurred at approximately 2:30 am on May 13 near the 2 Kilo area of Umkiang village.

Officers from the Umkiang Police Patrol Post were conducting a routine vehicle check when they stopped a white Hyundai Eon, registered as AS-10-A-5916, which was traveling toward Silchar. Upon conducting a thorough search of the car, authorities discovered the detonators hidden within two carton boxes and a single gunny bag. The suspects, identified as Kamrul Ali Laskar and Ibrahim Uddin Laskar, both hailing from Assam, were unable to provide valid documentation or authorization for the transport of these explosive materials.

A formal criminal case has been registered at the Lumshnong Police Station. The charges filed include Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 5 of the Explosive Substances Act. Law enforcement officials have launched a detailed investigation to identify the origin and intended destination of the explosives, as they work to uncover the broader network behind the illegal shipment.
