Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma unveiled a suite of education reforms in Tura this Saturday to improve administration and teaching standards. The initiatives include the launch of two digital platforms for the Meghalaya Board of School Education, known as the E-Office Management System and the Accounting System Software. These tools aim to increase institutional efficiency and accountability for students, parents, and staff.
The government also deployed 27 vehicles to assist District and Sub-Divisional School Education Officers. These vehicles are intended to enhance field-level monitoring and mobility, particularly in remote areas of the state. Additionally, the Chief Minister introduced the CM LEAD Fellowship program, which focuses on strengthening classroom learning and management practices across the state's 8,000 schools.
Sangma addressed ongoing concerns regarding teacher compensation, noting the government recently committed an additional 215 crore rupees annually to support SSA teachers. He emphasized that these financial updates provide necessary stability and dignity to educators. The state currently oversees nearly 4,500 grant-in-aid schools and invests approximately 3,500 crore rupees in the education sector annually.
While Meghalaya recently achieved a record high pass percentage of 97.26 percent for the SSLC exams, the Chief Minister urged stakeholders to look beyond test scores. He argued that meaningful change requires focusing on the needs of individual students to ensure a higher quality of learning at every level.
