Meghalaya Identifies 46 Crematorium Sites as Construction Funds Released

Shillong: The Meghalaya government notified the High Court it has locked down 46 sites for new crematoriums. Officials released Rs 46 lakh to district administrations to kick off the work. The total project aims for 60 locations across the state.

Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice W. Diengdoh heard the update from Additional Advocate General K Khan. He submitted an action-taken report to the bench. K Khan stated, "The government has finalised 46," of the required sites.

East Khasi Hills leads the count with 34 identified sites out of 43. The government sanctioned Rs 34 lakh for that district. Eastern West Khasi Hills finished three out of eight. Ri-Bhoi secured six sites. South West Khasi Hills locked in three. Every location receives Rs 1 lakh. District authorities currently hold these funds.

Work continues on the remaining spots. Six sites across the state still need identification. Staff are verifying other potential locations now. The court granted the state more time to confirm details on burial site identifications.
