Meghalaya Government Rules Out Privatisation of MeECL

Shillong: Meghalaya Power Minister Metbah Lyngdoh confirmed on Wednesday that the state government has no intention of privatising the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL). Addressing questions regarding efficiency improvements, Lyngdoh stated that officials have not considered any proposal to sell off the utility provider.

Instead, the government is prioritising efforts to restore the corporation to a stable financial position. Lyngdoh noted that MeECL has displayed positive signs of recovery in recent years, describing the ongoing trend as encouraging.

While the minister admitted that the corporation still faces significant hurdles, he expressed optimism about its future performance. "The corporation is already moving in the right direction," Lyngdoh said. He maintains that if the current recovery trajectory continues, MeECL could reach a firm financial footing within the next two to three years.
