Shillong: The Meghalaya government is set to resume direct control over power services in the Mawsynram sub-division. Power Minister Metbah Lyngdoh announced on Wednesday that the state will terminate the services of SAI Computer Limited in the region. This decision follows formal appeals from legislators representing Mawsynram, Mawphlang, and Ranikor.

Authorities revoked the contract after reviewing the situation and seeking legal advice, as the issue is currently under judicial review. The move follows months of public unrest, including a reported arson incident at the company’s office in Ranikor. Lyngdoh emphasized that the transition is limited strictly to Mawsynram to ensure stability for local residents.

Addressing the transition, Lyngdoh stated, "We have decided to cancel the letter given to SAI Computer Limited and the Corporation will take over. The point here that we would like to stress is that we would like to see that the people of that area should not suffer for whatever decision we will be taking." The minister added that the takeover will be handled carefully to maintain uninterrupted service.

Lyngdoh also dismissed concerns regarding the potential privatization of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited. He affirmed that the government remains committed to the revival of the state utility and expects the corporation to return to a stable financial position within the next few years.
