Meghalaya Education Minister Urges Graduates to Drive State Progress

Shillong: Meghalaya Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui addressed the first convocation ceremony of St. Xavier’s College in Umoid, calling on students to prioritize collective cooperation to drive the state's progress. During the event, which celebrated the graduating class of 2026, Rymbui highlighted the critical role of youth participation in shaping the region's future.

Rymbui encouraged students to maintain a positive outlook despite the challenges they may face. He noted that personal growth stems from continuous learning and self-discovery. Addressing the graduates, Rymbui stated, “In our journey, sometimes we cannot fulfil our dreams, we cannot reach the destination, but that is not the end of the road because life is full of opportunities.”

The minister outlined government initiatives aimed at youth empowerment, such as skill development programs, entrepreneurship support, and various educational reforms. He urged the new graduates to identify their unique strengths rather than comparing their personal paths to others. He emphasized that individual success relies on determination and an unwavering commitment to one's goals.

College principal Dr. Sunny Augustine praised the graduates and acknowledged the essential support provided by families and faculty members. The ceremony featured a musical production titled The Greatest Showman, which focused on themes of courage and inclusion, alongside cultural performances from Class XII students. The event concluded with a call for the graduates to serve as responsible and productive members of their communities.
