Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has praised the recent release of 14 Kuki civilians in Manipur's Senapati district. Describing the move as a humanitarian gesture, the Chief Minister credited the United Naga Council, Naga tribal Hohos, and various community leaders for their role in securing the safety of the civilians.
Sangma, who serves as the National President of the National People's Party, noted that this development offers a message of hope for the Northeast region. He stated, "The decision reflects the finest traditions of the Naga people, whose customs and faith have long upheld dignity, reconciliation, and respect for human life."
Following the release, Sangma called on Kuki civil society organizations to reciprocate by releasing six Naga civilians who remain in captivity. He urged all stakeholders to move past conflict and prioritize dialogue. The Chief Minister reaffirmed his party's commitment to protecting all citizens and emphasized that compassion must remain the foundation for lasting peace in the region.
