Shillong: Mawkyrwat MLA Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar laid foundation stones for two major infrastructure projects in the South West Khasi Hills district on Tuesday. The Jakrem A&B Water Supply Scheme anchors the effort with a 15.05 crore budget. It aims to fix the local water shortage. State officials from the Public Health Engineering Department and the Public Works Department joined the ceremony.
A second project targets the approach road to Mawbasa. The state sanctioned 1.46 crore to metal and blacktop the route, which serves local residents. The upgrades seek to provide better basic infrastructure and public amenities for local communities. Deputy Commissioner Aitinoli L. Mawlong attended the event alongside PHE Chief Engineer R.S. Nongbri and PWD Executive Engineer Joel P. Marbaniang.
Other officials on site included PHE Additional Chief Engineer K. Khonglah, Superintending Engineer L. Dhar, and Executive Engineer K. Nongbsaw. Jakrem headman Pascal Wahlang watched the proceedings with local residents. Regarding the regional development, Tongkhar noted the projects are "expected to improve access to drinking water and strengthen road connectivity in the area."
