Shillong: Mawkyrwat MLA Renikton L. Tongkhar toured Jakrem village on Saturday to scout road repairs. He wants these internal routes ready for two massive religious gatherings. The first hits in 2028 for the Church of God General Assembly. The second, a centenary celebration for the Jakrem Catholic Church, follows in 2029.
The Jakrem Dorbar Shnong requested blacktopping for 20 internal roads. Tongkhar brought PWD Executive Engineer Joel P. Marbaniang, SDO Banjop Shylla, and Mawkyrwat BDO I. Lawryniang to the site. They met with Jakrem Myntri Pascal Wahlang and church elders to weigh the work needed.
Tongkhar promised the PWD will draft formal cost estimates. He plans to squeeze funding from the state government, the Chief Minister’s fund, and his own MLA scheme. "I committed to following up on these proposals to secure sanctions," Tongkhar said.
He also pushed BDO I. Lawryniang to dig into block-level resources. Coordination between the village and the block remains the goal. These projects aim to serve the public long after the church events conclude.
