Shillong: Government officials and industry leaders met in Shillong to address a critical need for higher quality standards among Meghalaya's micro, small and medium enterprises. The sensitisation programme, held at the Directorate of Commerce and Industries, aimed to bridge awareness gaps regarding Bureau of Indian Standards certification and general quality management.
Director of Commerce and Industries Moonlander Wanshong told attendees that standardised manufacturing practices and certification schemes can help businesses improve productivity and strengthen their competitiveness. The event brought together approximately 60 entrepreneurs to learn about complex regulatory requirements, including product testing mechanisms and official conformity assessment processes.
Experts from the Bureau of Indian Standards walked business owners through the specifics of licence grants and renewals. Food safety officials also spoke on the necessity of compliance to protect consumer interests, particularly for health-related products. Additional technical support, including testing facilities and skill development, was presented by the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology in Guwahati.
The event concluded with an interactive session where local business owners asked about Quality Control Orders and ISO certification. This gathering highlighted a growing commitment among local entrepreneurs to adopt international standards to improve their market access and overall operational efficiency.
