Meghalaya Board Launches Workshop on PARAKH Assessment Framework

Shillong: The Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE) began a four-day workshop on Monday to train educators on the PARAKH taxonomy, the Holistic Progress Card, and digital assessment tools. Held at the MBoSE Regional Office in Shillong, the program runs through June 4 and includes 80 teachers and vocational trainers from across the state.

This initiative falls under the Equivalence of Boards program led by PARAKH, which is the national assessment regulator created under the National Education Policy 2020. PARAKH aims to move classrooms away from traditional rote memorization, focusing instead on creativity, awareness, and sensitivity.

MBoSE Chief Academic Officer Dr. Esther JE Shongwan said the framework encourages a more holistic view of student progress. Rather than strictly testing memory, the system evaluates critical thinking, life skills, and socio-emotional growth alongside academic performance.

A major focus of the training is the Integrated Test Management System, a digital platform from NCERT. This tool allows teachers to build custom question papers that align with specific learning competencies. By mapping questions to higher-order outcomes, the board hopes to standardize assessments and create a more consistent evaluation process.

The sessions are led by Uttarakhand Board of School Education Secretary Vinod Prasad Semalti and PARAKH Cell coordinator Shailendra Joshi, with oversight provided by Dr. Shongwan.
