Shillong: Meghalaya is set to launch six major road projects totaling Rs 3,214 crore to enhance state connectivity and drive economic development. The initiative includes constructing four new national highways and upgrading two existing road networks. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari is slated to lay the foundation stones for these developments at the upcoming North East India Infrastructure Summit and Exhibition, known as NEIINFRA 2026.
The investment package features key infrastructure, such as the Rs 951 crore Tura Bypass, the Rs 737 crore Dhubri-Phulbari Bridge and Selsella corridor, the Rs 564 crore Pynursla Bypass, and the Rs 504 crore Selsella-Goeragre Road. Improvement efforts also cover the Jowai Bypass and the Shillong-Dawki route. Regarding the announcement, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma noted that the projects represent a significant infrastructure push for Meghalaya and are expected to contribute to the state’s long-term growth.
NEIINFRA 2026, scheduled for June 15 and 16, will bring together policymakers, industry leaders, and financial institutions to discuss regional growth strategies. Hosted by the Federation of Industry and Commerce of North Eastern Region, the Meghalaya government, and the Build India Foundation, the event expects over 800 participants. Representatives from eight northeastern states will attend to coordinate development strategies aimed at expanding the region's overall infrastructure.
