Meghalaya and Assam Reach Border Agreement to Allow Farming

Shillong: Farmers in the border village of Lapangap in West Jaintia Hills are preparing to return to their fields after officials from Meghalaya and Assam reached a peaceful resolution. The agreement follows a meeting held at Lumpynthor on Tuesday aimed at easing long-standing tensions in the disputed region.

Representatives from both state governments, district administrations, and local village leaders attended the discussions. Both sides expressed a commitment to maintaining harmony along the interstate boundary throughout the talks.

Waheh Shnong of Lapangap, Deimonmi Lyngdoh, credited the diplomatic efforts of Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for the breakthrough. Residents are now permitted to resume cultivation on June 3, bringing a sense of relief to the local community.
