Guwahati: A severe fire broke out late on the night of June 7 at Sivasthan market in the Samaguri area of Assam. The blaze destroyed five commercial shops, resulting in estimated property and stock losses between 50 and 60 lakh rupees.
Residents reported that the fire started shortly after seismic tremors were felt in the region. While an official investigation is pending, locals suspect an electrical short circuit triggered by the earthquake caused the incident. The flames spread quickly, leaving shop owners unable to salvage their merchandise.
Local shop owners expressed deep frustration regarding the emergency response. Residents claimed that firefighters from the nearby Sonaibali Fire and Emergency Services station reached the market after a significant delay. One witness noted, "Several shop owners were seen in distress as years of investment and stock were reduced to ashes within a short span of time."
Authorities have confirmed that no casualties occurred during the blaze. Officials are expected to conduct a formal inquiry to determine the exact cause of the fire and verify the total financial impact on the affected business owners.
