Imphal: Manipur truck owners want the Keithelmanbi Police Station head gone. The Manipur Truck Owners Welfare Association claims the officer intimidated drivers and blocked traffic on National Highway-37. This road is the main supply line linking Imphal to Silchar.

Association president Hijam Ranjit said the officer sat on his hands while trucks sat idle. The police failed to clear a local blockade despite knowing about the 450-vehicle convoy moving through on Monday. Instead of helping, the officer allegedly scared drivers into stopping.

The truckers eventually moved only after the CRPF and RAF arrived to clear the road. The association branded the incident as a case of "gross negligence and misconduct" by the officer and the Kangpokpi district Superintendent of Police.

Truckers are now threatening a total work stoppage. They promised a hands-off steering wheel movement if the state ignores their demand for a transfer. The state government must guarantee safe travel on all highways, or the goods stop moving.

Police are currently running 114 checkpoints to protect the route. They provided armed escorts to get those 450 trucks past the trouble spots. Forces are also sweeping the hills and valleys to keep the peace.
