Imphal: Manipur drivers want answers. The Transporters and Drivers Council sent a formal complaint to the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. They demand an immediate probe into the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited regarding the disastrous state of the NH-37 road project.

Drivers call the highway Manipur's second lifeline. Yet, they say it is barely drivable. The council claims years of work and massive spending produced almost nothing. The road remains full of ruts, causing frequent accidents and engine failures. During the rains, landslides trap trucks in dangerous spots. The council warned that the condition is so bad, it has caused "vehicle damage, delays, accidents, financial losses and incidents of looting by miscreants."

Poor oversight is the main culprit. The council alleges that the project was split among too many subcontractors with zero supervision. This led to cheap work and no accountability. Now, transporters want a high-level committee to conduct a full audit of all cash spent and progress made. They want to see the project reports and fund details made public immediately.

The group insists the government must fix the worst stretches on a war footing. They want officials and contractors held responsible for any criminal negligence. If the Ministry ignores these demands, the council plans to launch protests. NHIDCL has stayed quiet on the claims so far.
