Manipur Police Destroy Nearly 40 Kilograms of Seized Narcotics

Imphal: Manipur Police incinerated approximately 39.4 kilograms of seized narcotics and psychotropic substances on Wednesday, June 17, at the SHIJA Common Bio-Medical Waste Treatment Facility in Lamdeng. The destruction of these substances was conducted as part of the Pre- and Post-Trial Drug Disposal Programme to combat local drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

The seized inventory included 4.444 kilograms of heroin powder, 5.353 kilograms of brown sugar, 0.422 kilograms of WY tablets, 2.668 kilograms of SP capsules, and 26.508 kilograms of ganja. These materials were collected through coordinated operations involving district police units, the Narcotics and Affairs of Border wing, and various security agencies.

IGP Ningshen Worngam supervised the disposal process and highlighted that the event underscores the department's dedication to creating a safer environment. "The programme marked a significant step in the collective effort to combat drug abuse and illicit trafficking, which continue to affect communities and livelihoods," he said. He added that the use of a modern waste treatment facility ensured environmental responsibility and transparency throughout the operation.

Worngam described the disposal as both a legal obligation and a social duty intended to safeguard future generations. He encouraged residents to continue cooperating with law enforcement to maintain public safety and fulfill the vision of a drug-free Manipur.
