Imphal: Manipur Police issued a stern warning against spreading misinformation on World Social Media Day. The state wants to stop rumors before they spark violence. Authorities told the public to use digital tools to build trust rather than destroy it. Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh urged citizens to practice responsible online habits. He said, "Uniting the Digital World" is the goal for 2026.

Fake news spreads fast. It threatens communal harmony. Police are hunting down disinformation campaigns aimed at government officials and security forces. Sharing graphic images or threats leads to jail time. Harassing law enforcement online is a crime. Publishing photos of minor victims is also off-limits.

The government is monitoring the web hard. They use digital forensic tools to track bad actors. Working with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, police identified over 5,400 sensitive posts. Most are already gone. They blocked several accounts for breaking the law.

Group admins must stay alert. If they let illegal content sit in their chats, they face prosecution. Verify everything before hitting send. If you see something suspicious, call the Central Control Room at 9485280419.
