Imphal: Manipur security forces have dismantled several extortion networks linked to proscribed insurgent groups following a series of coordinated operations over the past 36 hours. The crackdown targeted members from the Kangleipak Communist Party-People’s War Group, the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak, and the Revolutionary People’s Front or People’s Liberation Army.

In a significant tactical breakthrough, the Manipur Police teamed up with the Goa Crime Branch to capture Nongthombam Krishna in South Goa on June 16. Krishna, a self-styled Lieutenant Colonel within the RPF/PLA, had been evading authorities for over two decades. Police state he was wanted for a case registered under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act at the Lilong Police Station. Officials tracked his location after interrogating two other detained PLA cadres, Sanasam Sanamatum and Yengkokpam Premchand.

A special unit from the Lilong Police Station has since transported Krishna to Imphal via Delhi for legal proceedings. Authorities believe he served as a primary coordinator for widespread extortion activities across the state. Investigators say he "played a key role in coordinating extortion activities across Manipur."

Other recent arrests include 31-year-old Thangmangjam Naoba Singh, an alleged KCP-PWG operative taken into custody in Imphal West. Additionally, security personnel arrested 27-year-old Konjengbam Diliver Singh, who is accused of being a PREPAK cadre, near the Imphal International Airport exit gate. These arrests mark a broader effort by state security agencies to neutralize insurgent influence and tighten law enforcement operations.
