Imphal: Manipur launched a new bioreactor unit in Imphal on Thursday. The plant sits inside the CSIR-NEIST complex at Lamphelpat. It produces bio-fertilizers to push sustainable farming across the state. Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh opened the facility.
The government wants to help small local businesses. It also aims to protect native plants and train young people. During the event, Singh stated, "This initiative will strengthen organic."
The state Agriculture Department teamed up with Green Biotech Ecosolution Private Limited to reach farmers. They are supplying bio-fertilizers to 225 paddy field areas. These spots include 150 in Imphal East, 50 in Imphal West, and 25 in Thoubal. Farmers will test a new mix. They will use 25 percent bio-fertilizer alongside 75 percent chemical fertilizer.
Officials also handled fertilizer shortages. The state sold 93,472 bags of neem-coated urea during the monsoon season. They charged 270 rupees per bag. Teams set up 54 spots across all 16 districts to sell the stock. Special camps helped farmers in areas hit by recent violence. These teams delivered urea and seeds to keep the planting season alive.
