Imphal: Manipur's Agriculture Department and the Pukhao Farmers Club hosted a training event in Imphal East to modernize local crop production. Organizers handed out free agricultural inputs to attendees, including spray pumps, Sagol Hawai, Nung Hawai, Muk Hawai, and Mairongbi.
Joychandra Konthoujam pushed for a major shift in how the state manages its land. He argued that Manipur must stop relying on food shipments arriving via the Jiribam, Moreh, and Dimapur routes. Disruptions on these national highways threaten the supply of basic goods. "Providing farmers with agricultural inputs free of cost would help create a stronger farming community," Konthoujam stated during the event.
The state needs food security. Konthoujam pointed to Haryana as a model for scaling up production through commitment and better methods. He urged producers to ignore the habit of expecting food from outside the state, noting that Manipur possesses the fertile soil required to sustain its own population. Building a self-reliant economy depends on these local efforts.
