Imphal: Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh led a state-level observance of Kargil Vijay Diwas at the Manipur State Film Development Society in Imphal. Officials and residents gathered to pay tribute to the soldiers who died during the 1999 war. It was a somber day. The event honored the resilience of Veer Naris and Veer Matas.
Governor Bhalla praised the Indian Armed Forces for their role in Operation Sindoor and for defending national sovereignty. He called on Manipur's youth to serve the nation with discipline and patriotism to help realize the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. He said, "National security is a shared responsibility."
Chief Minister Singh provided a detailed account of the 1999 conflict, which lasted 78 days. He noted that Pakistani forces and terrorists crossed the border to target National Highway 1-A. The Indian Army launched Operation Vijay to push them back. The conflict claimed the lives of 527 soldiers, including five from Manipur. The Chief Minister also detailed the roles of the other branches: the Indian Air Force conducted Operation Safed Sagar, while the Indian Navy executed Operation Talwar to block enemy sea routes.
The ceremony included patriotic performances by the Shri Shri Bal Mukunda Dev Government Music College. High-ranking attendees included Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Tourism Minister Khuraijam Loken Singh, Chief Secretary Dr. Puneet Kumar Goel, Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, and DGP Mukesh Singh. Numerous MLAs, military officials, police officers, and families of martyrs also attended the memorial.
