Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh launched a state-wide initiative to distribute subsidised fertilisers for the 2026 Kharif cultivation season. The ceremony took place at the Directorate of Agriculture in Sanjenthong with senior officials, including Agriculture Commissioner-cum-Secretary T. Panmei and Director of Agriculture Peter Salam, in attendance.
The programme targets over 3.3 lakh farmers involved in paddy cultivation and related agricultural activities. To encourage organic farming, the government is supplying Oorja fertiliser through 187 centres throughout the state. While these bags typically retail for Rs 480, farmers can purchase them at a reduced rate of Rs 250 each. The distribution window remains open from June 15 to June 30, 2026.
Addressing concerns about supply, the Chief Minister confirmed that the state holds nearly two lakh bags of urea in stock. He assured the public that there is no shortage and noted that supplies will be issued based on verified documentation to ensure they reach the intended farmers. Reflecting on the mission, the Chief Minister stated on social media, "Flagged off the distribution of subsidised fertilizers for the Kharif Cultivation Season 2026 at the Directorate of Agriculture, Sanjenthong today."
