Imphal: Imphal West is the test site for a new digital health overhaul. The National Health Authority and the Manipur government picked the district to launch their integrated healthcare system.
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla met with NHA CEO Dr. Sunil Kumar Barnwal at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday to set the plan in motion. They want to sharpen local infrastructure and push digital tools into every corner of the state. Coordination between the state and the NHA remains the top priority to ensure these reforms actually hit the ground.
The NHA is bringing its full suite of digital platforms to the state, including the Unified Health Interface, the National Health Claims Exchange, and the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. These tools aim to streamline records and insurance claims for patients.
Dr. Barnwal also pushed for broader enrollment in the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. The scheme offers eligible families up to Rs 5 lakh in annual cashless coverage. Currently, seven lakh beneficiaries in Manipur hold these cards, but the goal is much higher. Dr. Barnwal urged local officials to register all 16 lakh eligible residents, stating, "Wider coverage would enable more people to benefit from the integrated digital healthcare ecosystem and improved access to quality medical services."
Since its 2018 launch, the nationwide PMJAY program has funded care for 12 crore patients. The government has poured Rs 1.9 lakh crore into these medical services. Manipur aims to mirror this success through the new district pilot.
