Manipur Khadi Board Facing Scrutiny Over 23 Unadvertised Appointments

Imphal: The Manipur Khadi and Village Industries Board (MKVIB) faces a growing scandal. Officials hired 23 people without any public recruitment advertisements. The Board’s tenure expired on October 28, 2025. Despite this, members continue to occupy their offices.

Chingakham Sanajaoba Singh served as Member Secretary. He signed the joining reports for all 23 new hires after his legal authority had already lapsed. A May 2, 2026, MKVIB document explicitly identified him as the "Outgoing Secretary, MKVIB" and ordered him to return his official vehicle. This designation directly contradicts his decision to finalize new staff appointments.

Critics demand answers regarding the legality of these actions. The Board functions as a statutory body, but its corporate existence does not grant its members infinite terms. Rules under the MKVIB Act state that members must receive formal re-appointment or extension notices to remain in power. No such documentation exists for this group. Furthermore, investigators want to know if these posts were government-sanctioned and who exactly formed the selection committee.

Administrator Anurag Bajpai, the current Chairman in-charge, has reportedly received notice of these irregularities. He has yet to take visible action. The government must now produce the original recruitment notices, sanctioned post approvals, and the specific orders authorizing these hires. Without clear proof, these 23 appointments remain legally compromised.
