Manipur Sports Employees End Strike After Official Posting Change

Imphal: The Youth Affairs and Sports Employees Association suspended its strike yesterday. Government officials backed down. The Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms issued an order on August 10, walking back a July 27 mandate that gave additional charge of Joint Director to a specific appointee.

Association leaders met with the Youth Affairs and Sports Minister to hash out the details. They wanted someone from the Manipur Civil Service cadre in that specific role. The union appreciated the minister for hearing them out. "The suspension was made in good faith to allow normal functioning of the department and sports and youth-related activities to resume," the group stated.

Work resumes now. The strike is over, but the fight is not. The association still holds concerns regarding the Joint Director of Administration post. They plan to submit a detailed memorandum outlining administrative reforms. The group says it remains committed to dialogue to help the sportspersons and youth of Manipur.
