Manipur INTUC Demands Wage Parity and Job Security

Imphal: The Indian National Trade Union Congress is making waves in Bengaluru. During the 316th Working Committee meeting, the Manipur branch took aim at the state government over economic instability. Leaders want immediate action on runaway prices and persistent gaps in employee benefits.

Yumnam Ranapratap, president of the Manipur branch, told the assembly that local workers face a raw deal. Employees and pensioners of state Public Sector Undertakings currently receive 42 per cent in Dearness Allowance and Relief. This lags 18 per cent behind the 60 per cent rate paid to their federal counterparts. Ranapratap called for immediate state intervention, noting, "The Government of Manipur to take appropriate measures to address these longstanding concerns affecting employees and pensioners in the state."

Job security topped the agenda alongside pay. Ranapratap demanded the government move to regularize eligible workers caught in precarious employment. Vice-president Haobam Balesor joined the sessions, which run through June 30. The committee also used the time to map out political strategy ahead of next year's state assembly elections.
