Imphal: Manipur authorities recovered the bodies of six individuals on Wednesday following an extensive search operation in the Kangpokpi district. The victims, who were abducted from Leilon Vaiphei village on May 13, were located by a joint team of 450 personnel from the Manipur Police, the Central Reserve Police Force, and the Assam Rifles.

Following the recovery, the bodies were transported to the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal. Security forces were forced to deploy tear gas at the hospital to manage crowds after protesters caused minor property damage at the site. The state government has since transferred the investigation into the abductions and subsequent killings to the National Investigation Agency.

Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh issued a formal statement condemning the incident and promising justice for the victims. "The government will not tolerate such violence and will not remain a mute spectator to these atrocities. Those responsible for the murders will be arrested and punished as per law," the chief minister stated.

The United Naga Council has publicy denounced the violence and called on the central government to designate the Kuki National Front-President faction as a terrorist organization. The group further demanded the removal of Deputy Chief Minister Thongam Satyabrata Singh, citing unverified allegations regarding his family ties. Officials have tightened security measures across the region while monitoring the ongoing situation.
