Manipur Concludes RING 2026 to Preserve Indigenous Sports

Imphal: The five-day Revival of Indigenous Native Games event concluded in Manipur this week. The festival celebrated the region's cultural identity through traditional sports and martial arts, drawing participants from across the local community.

Huidrom Premkumar Singh spoke at the closing ceremony about the historical importance of Thang-Ta. He noted that the martial art once served as a vital defense for the people of Manipur. He added that the sport is now gaining national recognition through the Khelo India scheme and called for collective efforts to bring these traditional practices to the international stage.

Chief guest Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi praised Manipur as a major sporting hub. She encouraged the expansion of these games outside the state, noting that they teach discipline and moral values to the youth. She urged society to work together to safeguard these ancestral traditions for future generations.
