Manipur CM Pushes Mother Tongue Learning and Skill Training

Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh opened a three-day workshop on National Education Policy 2020 reforms at the City Convention Centre in Imphal. The event aims to iron out challenges in school education. Education keeps the world turning. Singh leaned on a classic quote, noting that "education is one of the most powerful tools to change the world."

The Chief Minister pushed for teaching children in their mother tongue until Class V. He argues this approach speeds up learning for students. Beyond language, officials want to bake skill development into the curriculum starting in Class VI. Professors believe vocational courses will help students find jobs later. Everyone must pitch in for these reforms to work. The government cannot carry this load alone.

Law and order issues recently stalled local schools. The state slashed summer break from three weeks down to one. Authorities also ordered government offices to work on Saturdays to recover lost time. These extra work days will end once the backlog clears. State leaders, including Chief Secretary Dr. Puneet Kumar Goel, framed these changes as part of the broader push for a developed India by 2047.
