Imphal: Manipur officials have launched a fleet of 400 advanced police vehicles as part of an ongoing state modernisation scheme. The initiative aims to enhance the mobility and operational efficiency of the force. The vehicles were officially flagged off on Monday at the 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles Parade Ground in Imphal, attended by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand, Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, and top police leadership.
The deployment strategy allocates 54 percent of the new fleet to hill districts, while the remaining 46 percent will serve the valley areas. Officials noted that these resources, alongside new weaponry and equipment, are intended to strengthen overall law enforcement capabilities. Plans are also underway to acquire sophisticated technology to combat cybercrime more effectively.
During the ceremony, the Chief Minister commended the police for their dedication to maintaining law and order during the current conflict. He urged the public to refrain from violence during protests while acknowledging the democratic right to demonstrate. Regarding the recent kidnapping of six hostages, the Home Minister confirmed that the government is actively engaging with civil society groups and pursuing operations to resolve the situation.
