Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Tuesday that Manas National Park has successfully reached a major conservation milestone. The protected site has recorded zero incidents of rhino and tiger poaching for three consecutive years.
Sharing the news on social media, Sarma credited the achievement to the state's ongoing commitment to wildlife protection and biodiversity preservation. He noted that the park has transitioned from a history of frequent poaching reports to a state where zero poaching is the new normal. The Chief Minister described the success as the result of relentless efforts by the government to improve security and protect the park's fragile ecosystem.
Manas National Park, a recognized UNESCO World Heritage Site, previously struggled with poaching and disruptions linked to regional insurgencies. To reverse these trends, state authorities focused on upgrading surveillance systems and protection infrastructure while actively encouraging community participation in conservation programs.
