Shillong: An unidentified assailant murdered 60-year-old Elbin Kharbani and left 68-year-old Seldaris Kharsyntiew with critical stab wounds at their Porsohsat village home. The attack occurred at 2 am on Friday. Police received a report from a local resident at 4 am.
Authorities rushed the victims to Civil Hospital in Nongstoin. Kharbani died from severe head trauma shortly after arrival. Kharsyntiew is now in Shillong receiving treatment for her injuries. West Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Herbert Kharkongor confirmed the timeline and the severity of the violence.
Initial reports suggested a connection to a missing 18-year-old woman and her live-in partner. Police found the woman unharmed on Friday afternoon. She is currently speaking with investigators. Her partner, however, remains at large. Police consider him the primary suspect in this case. The manhunt continues. "A case has been registered and investigations are ongoing to apprehend the accused, who remains absconding," said Kharkongor.
