Guwahati: Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain has secured her position in the Indian boxing contingent for the 2026 Asian Games in Japan and the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The qualification follows a commanding performance at the national selection trials held in Patiala, where she competed in the women's 75 kg category.
During the final bout, Borgohain demonstrated her superior form by defeating Sanamacha Chanu with a unanimous 5-0 decision. This victory confirms her trajectory toward two of the year's most significant international sporting events, with the Commonwealth Games set to commence on July 23 in Glasgow, followed by the Asian Games on September 19.
Born on October 2, 1997, Borgohain has built a distinguished career as one of India's most decorated boxers. She made history as the third Indian boxer to win an Olympic medal, taking bronze at the 2020 Tokyo Games. Her extensive list of accolades includes a gold medal at the 2023 IBA Women's World Boxing Championships and two bronze medals from the 2018 and 2019 AIBA World Championships. As the first female athlete from Assam to reach the Olympic stage, she remains a pioneering figure in Indian sports, further cemented by her 2020 Arjuna Award.
