Longsa Village Council Cracks Down on Illegal Liquor Trade

Kohima: Longsa Village Council officials destroyed a cache of Indian Made Foreign Liquor on Friday. They smashed 25 bottles and a quarter bottle near Wokha. The haul hit an estimated value of Rs 10,000.

Council members seized the stock during a surprise sweep on July 2. They caught a van driver moving the goods, who pointed the finger at two other locals. The council tracked down both men.

GB Robin Kikon said the village holds a firm stance against booze. First-time offenders pay a Rs 5,000 penalty. A repeat buyer drew a Rs 10,000 fine. Kikon noted, "anyone caught violating the prohibition policy for a third time would be expelled from the village."

Local leaders, church officials, and student union members watched as the council dumped the stash. This show of force aims to keep the area dry. The village council plans more random checks to stop liquor traffic. They demand full compliance from every resident.
