Guwahati: Residents of the Dumdumia area in Assam's Nagaon district apprehended two men attempting to sell a stolen cow at a local market. The suspects, identified as Hamid Ali of Moirabari and Saddam Hussain of Segunbari, were caught by alert villagers who recognized the animal.
The cow had been purchased by Mahibul Islam ahead of Eid-ul-Adha but was stolen from his property overnight. Although the theft had been reported to authorities, the case remained unsolved until the animal reappeared at the Dumdumia market. Following the confrontation, the villagers handed the pair over to the Dumdumia Police Outpost.
The two men are currently in the custody of the Moirabari Police for further questioning. Authorities are now investigating the possibility that these suspects are connected to a larger organized criminal network. A police official noted that they are launching an "interrogation to uncover the extent of the alleged racket." The incident has prompted calls from local residents for increased security and more rigorous policing within regional rural markets.
