Itanagar: Ledum village residents are struggling to recover two weeks after flash floods tore through their community. On June 28, the Sileng and Kileng rivers surged simultaneously, burying farmland under thick layers of sand and debris. The torrent wrecked homes and wiped out livestock. It also crippled local fisheries as silt choked the ponds.

MLA Ninong Ering toured the site to meet with displaced families. He promised government compensation and a plan for rehabilitation. A high-level team representing the Ministries of Home Affairs, Finance, and Agriculture recently inspected the wreckage to weigh the damage. Ering noted the scale of the visit is unprecedented for the region. He told locals, "This team is from the Central Government; they have come from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Agriculture. Officials from our National Highways have also come. So, such a large team here-it is perhaps the first time that such a team has come to Arunachal."

Ering expects the assessment will secure the federal funds needed to rebuild shattered roads and infrastructure. He confirmed that help for destroyed homes is already baked into existing government policy. Residents remain focused on the long road to recovery. They continue to press for immediate relief as they clear the debris from their livelihoods.
