Shillong: Langsning FC reached their first-ever Meghalaya State League final after a tense 4-2 penalty shootout win against Shillong Lajong FC on May 30. The second semi-final at the SSA Stadium ended 1-1 after extra time, forcing the game into a deciding shootout.
Shillong Lajong opened the scoring in the 21st minute through Fridison Wanniang, who converted a pass from Deibormame Tongper to dominate the first half. Langsning gained momentum after the break and equalized 10 minutes before the end of regulation time. Nelson Rymbai scored his 23rd goal of the season after capitalizing on a long throw from Chusrang Sangma.
Neither side could break the deadlock during the additional 30 minutes of extra time, despite several scoring opportunities. Goalkeeper Nister Roy Suting became the hero for Langsning by making a vital save during the shootout. With an additional miss from Samchaphrang Lato for Shillong Lajong, Langsning successfully converted four penalties to clinch the match.
This victory sets up a championship clash against tournament debutants Nongkseh SSCC on June 5. The final ensures that the competition will crown a fifth different winner in its history.
