Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh remains in crisis after a June 24 cloudburst triggered flash floods and massive landslides. The Hoj-Potin section of National Highway 13 is impassable. Debris and washed-out road segments have choked vital travel routes. One person is dead and four remain missing.
The storm leveled 18 residential quarters at the NEEPCO colony. Key transit points like the Black Mud Point and the Pare River section have crumbled into the earth. Papum Pare Deputy Commissioner Lobsang Tsering confirmed that crews are struggling to clear the damage. He stated, "No earth-cutting permissions were issued during his tenure in the district."
Operations are grinding to a halt. Persistent rain and unstable vertical slopes complicate debris removal. Engineering crews face 50-meter-deep cuts in the terrain. Fuel shortages further throttle the response. While the Sagalee-Parang road serves as a temporary detour, the Kimin-Potin route is also blocked.
The shutdown isolates Lower Subansiri, Kurung Kumey, Kra Daadi, Kamle, and Upper Subansiri districts. Essential supply chains are fraying. Authorities warned that full repairs could take an entire month. Commuters must avoid the area as the ground remains dangerous.
