Landslide Buries Vehicles in Guwahati After Heavy Rain

Guwahati: A landslide smashed through Guwahati’s Kharghuli area Sunday morning after heavy rain triggered a wall collapse. Debris buried six two-wheelers parked along the roadside around 10 am. The slide involved the retaining wall of a nearby homestay. Five scooters and one motorcycle were destroyed in the wreckage.

Disaster management crews arrived quickly to clear the mess. They are working to reopen the road. No one died or got hurt during the collapse. Still, residents fear the worst. A local witness warned about the potential for tragedy, stating, "Many people park their vehicles here while visiting the nearby market. If the landslide had happened on a weekday, it could have claimed lives."

Neighbors blame the collapse on unregulated construction and reckless hill cutting. They claim the old building’s wall was an accident waiting to happen. The damage hurts local workers. Two ruined scooters belonged to a couple running a food stall. Another resident lost his vehicle and his brother’s scooter, both vital for their tea shop business.

Locals want the administration to inspect hillsides and stop illegal digging. They demand action before more slopes fail during the monsoon. Officials are still checking the area for further instability. No official report has been released yet.
