Guwahati: A massive landslide tore through the 10th Mile area of Jorabat early Friday, October 2. The hillside collapsed around 3 am, burying a portion of a petrol station located near the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM). Falling rocks, soil, and debris slammed into the premises, covering nearly half of the station.

Two vehicles, including a bus, sustained damage during the slide. No injuries or deaths occurred. Panic gripped the locality as debris continued to tumble down the slope long after the initial collapse. Local residents blamed the disaster on construction work, alleging that extensive earth-cutting weakened the hill.

Footage of the event circulated across social media platforms. Officials are currently inspecting the remaining slope to gauge future risks. They are conducting a full assessment of the property to determine the extent of the damage. One resident noted the ongoing danger, stating, "soil and debris reportedly continuing to slide down the slope after the initial collapse." Authorities are now working to secure the area as the investigation proceeds.
