Shillong: The Office of the Deputy Commissioner and Competent Authority for Land Acquisition in South West Garo Hills has launched the compensation distribution process for land acquired for the Tura Bypass National Highway project. Payments are being processed through the Public Financial Management System, which requires Aadhaar authentication for all eligible recipients.
Officials are urging landowners to ensure their bank accounts are linked to their Aadhaar numbers to prevent payment delays. Those who have not yet submitted their banking information must visit the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Ampati immediately. According to the official notification, "compensation amounts shall be deemed to have been paid after the expiry of sixty days from the date of publication of the notice, subject to Aadhaar authentication and successful linkage of bank accounts."
Property owners must surrender their land parcels within this sixty day window. If possession is not transferred by that deadline, authorities may involve the Police Department to take control of the land under the National Highways Act of 1956. The Tura Bypass project serves as a significant infrastructure effort designed to reduce traffic congestion and improve transport links across the Garo Hills.
