Guwahati: Lakhimpur police busted a major counterfeit currency racket on Tuesday. Officers detained six men and seized fake notes worth Rs 3 lakh. The coordinated raids hit multiple spots under the Laluk Police Station jurisdiction.

Intelligence reports first tipped off police about the gang. Suspects allegedly manufactured and pushed fake bills throughout Balijan and Balitika. The detainees are Abdul Razak, Riyaz Uddin, Imran Hussain, Rajibul Haque, Muksadul Alom, and Motibur Rahman.

Officers found Rs 1 lakh in fake notes at the home of Abdul Razak. They pulled another Rs 2 lakh from Motibur Rahman. The money trail suggests a bigger operation. Police believe these men distributed fake cash across Assam and beyond. They targeted regular people by selling the funny money at steep discounts.

Officials labeled the operation a clear danger to the local economy. "The racket is suspected to have targeted unsuspecting individuals by offering counterfeit currency at discounted rates to generate illegal profits." Investigators think the group hid other evidence before the law arrived. The suspects allegedly kept close ties with cohorts in North Lakhimpur and Bihpuria.

Police registered a case for conspiracy and circulating illegal currency. Detectives are still hunting for other members of the syndicate. They promise to push for tough penalties against everyone caught in the web.
