Imphal: Three Kuki-Zo student groups gave Manipur University seven days to scrap current admission notices. The Kuki Students Organisation, Zomi Students Federation, and Hmar Students Association want the school to set up study centers in Churachandpur. They claim ethnic violence keeps students from the main Imphal campus.
Around 400 postgrads and 80 PhD scholars remain locked out of their education. The groups say these students have missed three straight academic years because they cannot safely enter the Canchipur campus. They argue the ongoing admission process breaks rules on equal access set by the University Grants Commission.
The groups want the university to exempt students from the CUET exam in five specific districts. They also demanded a fresh application window and compensation for the lost years. In a joint statement, the groups said: "If the university authorities fail to respond to their demands within one week, they will be compelled to launch intensified democratic agitation."
The students insist the administration must act fast. Their ultimatum follows two recent admission notices issued in late June and early July. Failure to comply will trigger major protests across the region.
