Imphal: Three apex student organizations gave Manipur University a one-week deadline to scrap recent admission notices. The Kuki Students Organisation, the Zomi Students Federation, and the Hmar Students Association issued the warning Friday. They want the school to provide alternative study locations for students trapped by ethnic violence.

The groups demand the university withdraw its June 23 notice for postgraduate programs and its July 1 notice for Pre-PhD admission. Kuki-Zo students have not accessed the Canchipur campus in Imphal since May 3, 2023. These students remain cut off from classrooms. The university has already pushed through three academic sessions without help.

About 400 postgraduate students and 80 PhD scholars are sidelined. The organizations argue that the current process violates University Grants Commission principles of equity. They sent a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor. It highlights how students from Churachandpur, Pherzawl, Kangpokpi, Chandel, and Tengnoupal districts cannot safely travel to Imphal.

The groups want an extension center set up in Churachandpur district. They also want an exemption from CUET PG 2026 requirements. They demanded fresh admission notices with at least one month for applications and clear plans to compensate for three years of academic losses. If officials ignore these terms, the students plan to strike. The joint statement declared, "If the university authorities fail to respond to their demands within one week, they will be compelled to launch intensified democratic agitation."
