Imphal: Kuki-Zo Council Chairman Henlianthang Thanglet publicly admitted his group killed six Naga civilians. He called the act a great mistake made out of emotion. This confession arrived six weeks after the abduction of the victims in Leilon Vaiphei village. Their dismembered bodies turned up near Kharam Vaiphei on June 11.
Thanglet spoke in a viral video alongside spokesperson Ginza Vualzong. He stated, "Yes, I agreed that the Kuki-Zo has made a great mistake in killing of six 'Kacha Nagas,' civilian which is made out of emotion. I really regret it." The statement marks the first time Kuki leadership accepted responsibility for the deaths.
The killings triggered massive outrage across Manipur and Nagaland. Naga groups held vigils and sit-ins while demanding justice. The United Naga Council now wants to scrap the Suspension of Operations agreement with Kuki armed groups. They claim this pact failed to keep people safe.
Questions linger regarding security failures. The Naga People's Organisation flagged a June 21 operation by the CoBRA Unit of the CRPF against the KNF-P insurgent group. Soldiers left the area without making any arrests or explaining the lack of progress. The Naga Women's Union expressed shock that security forces continue to escort Kuki community movements through Naga lands while the victim families suffer.
