Imphal: The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has clarified its stance on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, stating it does not oppose the process itself. Information Secretary Janghaolun Haokip issued a statement addressing media reports that suggested the organization was against the revision. He explained that the group’s primary concern is the potential exclusion of thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs) currently living in relief camps.
KIM argues that many residents who fled their homes due to the recent ethnic conflict face significant barriers to participating in the revision. The organization maintains that any democratic process that disenfranchises these citizens is inherently flawed. Regarding the current approach, the group asserted, "The exercise remains unacceptable in its present form unless adequate arrangements are made by the authorities to ensure the participation of all eligible IDPs."
By pressing for better access for displaced citizens, KIM aims to ensure the electoral process remains inclusive. The organization is calling on relevant authorities to modify their approach to guarantee that those affected by the ongoing violence are not left out of the electoral record.
