Imphal: Kuki groups are pointing fingers at NSCN-IM and the Myanmar-based Shanni Nationalities Army after Phaimol village in Kamjong went up in flames. The Kuki Inpi Manipur and the Committee on Tribal Unity issued separate statements Wednesday blaming these armed factions for the destruction.

The village was left undefended. The Kuki Inpi Manipur claims Assam Rifles personnel vacated their post at the site just one day before the arson attack occurred. Officials now face pressure to explain why that security was pulled. The groups are calling for a transparent probe into the withdrawal.

This is not a one-off event. It is a pattern. The Kuki Inpi Manipur listed a long string of Kuki villages allegedly torched throughout 2026, including K. Songlung, Litan-Sareikhong, and Kultuh. They argue these are not simple law-and-order problems but a massive security failure.

Serious questions linger about the NSCN-IM. Despite their existing ceasefire deal with New Delhi, they are accused of terrorizing civilian settlements. The groups warned that these recurring attacks could, "undermine public confidence in the peace process."

Cross-border militancy remains a flashpoint. The involvement of the Shanni Nationalities Army has triggered demands for tighter border security and government engagement with Myanmar. Both organizations are now pushing the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to secure vulnerable hill districts and hold the perpetrators accountable.
