Imphal: A Kuki civil society coalition has ordered the redirection of Hill House Tax collections from Ukhrul and Kamjong districts to authorities in Kangpokpi. The Working Committee of Kuki Civil Society Organisations issued the directive, claiming that both the state and central governments have abandoned their duty to protect the Kuki-Zo population.

The committee cites a pattern of administrative neglect and a refusal to implement a March 19 agreement meant to provide security and alternative administrative arrangements. Tensions have intensified following reported attacks on Kuki villages. On May 22, the group stated that Mongkot Chepu village faced multiple assaults from Sikibung, while Patleijang village was targeted later that night by forces linked to the NSCN (EF).

Beyond the financial shift, the committee has tasked the Kuki Students' Organisation with launching a public awareness campaign. By June 1, they plan to install signs and hoardings across Ukhrul and Kamjong to formally identify those areas as falling under the jurisdiction of Kangpokpi district. The organization maintains that these measures are a necessary response to persistent governmental apathy and security failures.
