Guwahati: The Kuki CSO Working Committee has issued a sharp rebuke against the Manipur government and security forces following a violent confrontation at a protest in Shangkai. The committee accused the Central Reserve Police Force and Rapid Action personnel of using disproportionate force, including tear gas, against Kuki-Zo protesters who gathered to demand justice for local victims.

According to the organization, the situation escalated when security forces fired tear gas shells into nearby residential areas. Several civilians, including women, were injured during the clash. The committee reported that one woman remains in critical condition after sustaining a serious head injury during the incident.

The protest was organized to draw attention to the unresolved abduction of 14 Kuki civilians and the recent killing of three Kuki-Zo pastors. The committee claimed that authorities have ignored these concerns while failing to make progress in the investigations. They argued that the state government is practicing selective action and has consistently failed to hold security personnel accountable for alleged excesses.

The Kuki CSO Working Committee is now calling for a time-bound judicial inquiry into the Shangkai incident and immediate medical support for the wounded. They are urging the Ministry of Home Affairs to intervene to ensure the safe release of the abducted civilians. The group also appealed to church bodies and human rights organizations to join their push for accountability and equal treatment for the Kuki-Zo community as ethnic tensions continue to impact the region.
